Many harsh critics of immigration claim the absurd, when trying to win supporters. They claim that immigrants are ruining America. They claim that it takes jobs away from Americans.
But the immigrants are here to be Americans themselves.
And the only natural born Americans are the various Indian tribes.
This means we’re all immigrants.
The average hourly Hispanic employees that have been with my companies in the unskilled hourly worker class have made around $2.00 more per hour than the native-born Caucasians or African-Americans.
Why?
Immigrants work harder. Immigrants have respect. Immigrants have a sense of loyalty. And immigrants have a strong appreciation for people who treat them with respect and dignity.
You can't blame these new Americans for the laziness; deliberate incompetence; and willful ignorance, of the Americans who were born here and took America for granted.
The harshest critics of immigration have proven to be the people who lost their easy ticket to ride. The deliberately unproductive workers who called-out all the time; and who is a constant high-maintenance nightmare; is the very type to bitch the most against immigration.
Up until Bush opened the border flood gates - most companies had to settle for labor that expected something for nothing - now those same workers have actual competition. Of course, now they hate immigrants and the companies that hire them - because now they have to actually work; do a good job; show up to work; be on time; and be dressed and groomed appropriately.
All this isn't to say that all immigrants are great workers - they’re just as human as the rest of us - some are great and some are just as worthless as anyone else.
But the odds are you will have a more reliable and harder working staff that has a work ethic - if you hire immigrants.
The key is in treating them with respect and dignity. So many get treated like trash that it’s shameful. How can Americans forget we're all immigrants somewhere in the past?
Then, of course, there is the language barrier - but America is the only country where it isn't common place for the average native-born citizen to be at least bilingual - in almost all other countries the average person does speak more than one language.
So its time we all put forth a little effort. It’s easier to learn Spanish than to learn English. It’s a well known fact that English isn't a smooth language.
Legal vs. Illegal Aliens
So there still are illegal aliens. What can you do to separate the two?
First, your only legal concern is in identification.
If your company isn't too cheap; you can do background checks for only $15.00. This in standard form takes about four days; and will verify social security numbers and criminal records.
But you must also examine a valid photo ID. There are guide books you can get that will teach you how to tell if the ID is fake, or has been tampered with. These can be obtained through law enforcement; the INS; and publishers who provide guides to bar owners.
Once you have performed 'due diligence' and verified them as legal, you are good to go.
Remember, each of us is a descendant of immigrants to the North American continent – so don’t look down to much on someone with broken English.
